Cryptocurrency Exchanges

While :term:`cryptocurrency` exchanges are highly regulated and privately held companies out for a profit, they are the most common way to obtain coins. In some cases, owning Bitcoin or USDT is a prerequisite to purchasing PART.

Non-Custodial Exchanges

Non-custodial exchanges or swap exchanges are online services that let you directly exchange one :term:`cryptocurrency` for another without intermediary steps and double fees.

    #. Open the swap exchange website.
    #. Choose the source :term:`cryptocurrency` to swap from.

    #. Send your coins to the address provided and wait for the transaction to be completed. This can take several minutes, depending on the exchange and the currency you trade for.
